Assemblyman Camara has a long-time passion for public service and believes in government as a tool to help improve the lives of its citizens. He served for three years on the Community Advisory Board of the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center and continues to serve on the Faith Leader Advisory Committee of New Visions for Public Schools and the Board of Managers of the Bedford YMCA. Assemblyman Karim Camara born and raised in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, is the son of a retired nurse and principal. Assemblyman Camara received his BA in English Literature and Chemistry from Xavier University of Louisiana and a Masters of Divinity from the New York Theological Seminary. He has also studied at Alfred University, Fordham University, and Wesley Theological Seminary. Camara is truly a face of Brooklyn.
