Clinton Hill is located between Fort Greene and Bedford Stuyvesant. It is filled with many large and ornate mansions. Most of the mansions that stand along Clinton Avenue were built by millionaires in the 19th century-- making Clinton Hill a very fashionable neighborhood. Boasting one of the largest concentrations of post-Civil War row houses, Clinton Hill was recently placed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places. Part of what contributed to Clinton Hillls popularity was its proximity to Manhattan by way of stagecoach to the Fulton Ferry in nearby Brooklyn Heights.

One of the most prominent 19th century figures to call Clinton Hill home, was Charles Pratt who built a mansion for himself and also individual mansions for three of his four sons. These four mansions can be seen on Clinton Avenue between DeKalb and Willoughby.

Charles Pratt also founded the Pratt Institute of Art, a world renowned art college, just a few blocks from his home in 1887. Pratt Institute became home to Brooklyn's first free library and produced several notable alumni including, Mickalene Thomas, Dr. Deborah Willis, Willie Torbert, Rodney Leon, Ellsworth Ausby and Dwight C. Johnson. Professors from Pratt who continue to make positive impacts on their communities include Nanette Carter and Laurie Cumbo of MoCADA to name a few.

Today, Clinton Hill is a wonderful blend between the traditional nostalgic Brooklyn neighborhood and a new, hip vibe emerging all over Brooklyn. In Clinton Hill you will find an eclectic variety of restaurants including Le Grand Dakar and Joloff, both serving authentic and delicious African cuisine! The neighborhood is also home to many important people in the arts, such as Mos Def and artist/gallerist, Danny Simmons, brother of famed Hip-Hop mogul and civic-minded entrepreneur Russell Simmons. Danny Simmons founded the Corridor Gallery as part of the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation. The gallery is dedicated to providing exhibition opportunities to Brooklyn's emerging artistic community including artists, curators and writers.
